María Alejandra Pájaro Rozo is a qualified lawyer, holding a degree from the Pontifical Javeriana University (Bogotá DC, Colombia) and a Master of Laws (LLM) with a specialisation in Public Law from University College London – UCL (London, United Kingdom). She is proficient in handling matters in both Spanish and English.

 

Her expertise spans Constitutional Law and Human Rights, International Human Rights Law, European and International Refugee Law, and International Humanitarian Law.

 

In her academic pursuits, she made noteworthy contributions to the "Business & Human Rights Resource Centre" project conducted by the Universities of Oxford (United Kingdom) and Denver (United States of America). Here, she conducted in-depth analyses of global human rights abuse by various corporations. Additionally, as a member of the "Public International Law Pro Bono Project - PILPBP" (United Kingdom), Maria Alejandra focused on transitional justice, playing a pivotal role in developing legal frameworks for conflict resolution.

 

Throughout her distinguished professional career, she served at the “Superintendency of Companies” and the “Colombian Constitutional Court”, handling crucial public matters and contributing to significant jurisprudential pronouncements. At “Open Society Foundations – OSF” in London, Maria Alejandra played a crucial role in supporting the "Justice Initiative" team, providing expertise in research, policy analysis, and legal advice on human rights issues. She was instrumental in structuring strategic litigation and advocacy projects in critical areas such as migrant and refugee rights, equality and non-discrimination, and climate change. Her impactful projects have reached diverse jurisdictions in Europe, Africa, and Latin America.

 

Maria Alejandra's global experience extends to participation in professional development programs, including the "Human Rights Summer School" at the University of Essex (UK), focusing on research design, qualitative and quantitative methods, strategic litigation, international advocacy (multilateral and transnational), strategic communication, campaigning and theory of change, and the "United Nations Human Rights Council Training Programme," addressing UN systems, humanitarian intervention, diplomacy, treaty bodies and mechanisms of the UN, negotiation skills, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), leadership and advocacy skills.
